So this guy here is Flynn - He started to chew his tail very early in life, to the point where all medications failed, eventually one of my colleagues resorted to amputate his tail. Unfortunately, this didn't help and chewing his tail continue.

Works well there too, and neither owner wants to withdraw the product

RE: What's your experience with amitriptyline long term?

I have one patient on it, a huge dog with sever fear aggression and even his owners were terrified of him. They say it works and the dog is better. I don't know if it will help in your case, sorry.

Stephen, what symptoms would you expect to see if we were to stop it abruptly for whatever reason?

RE: What's your experience with amitriptyline long term?

You can give it long term, but it cannot be withdrawn easily as the body becomes dependent - assuming that dogs respond in similar ways to humans

If it works then give it in good conscience, because to be honest there is very little else to try as an alternative, and results will always be a gamble
