He presented to us in December with a pruritic sore on the back of his neck, he was given a Dexafort injection and it resolved, a few weeks later he developed several more sores, and a kitten in the house (being looked

RE: Ringworm treatment in a cat

I saw him back yesterday, his skin is much improved, almost back to normal on his dorsum and hair is growing back where he had the lesion on the right side of his head. I'm wondering of some of the lesions could have been a reaction to medication, either the Itrafungol or Malaseb. I have taken hair plucks from multiple sites for dermatophyte culture and have stopped all treatment while waiting for results.

The kitten is no longer in the house, it has gone back to its owner.

RE: Ringworm treatment in a cat

Thank you for your reply. There is still no contact between this cat and the kitten, and I understand from the owner that the kitten's most recent ringworm test has come back negative. I'll get it back in and do some direct smears.

RE: Ringworm treatment in a cat

Certainly this does not appear to be following the typical progression for dermatophytosis, and if there are still active lesions I would consider looking at direct smears to assess for eosionpilic plaque or bacterial infection. Is the cat still having no contact with the kitten?
