I retired from the practising register a few years ago but could anyone please tell me if I am still allowed to write a prescription for my own cat?
Oh Sorry, you mean like a different country !!? I stand corrected! :) In any case, I would be that there are thousands of cats named Horse in New Zealand just like a lot of Bassets in the UK are Fred after the long-term Daily Mail cartoon! But my new silver tabby kitten in 1994 was a totally different temperament to the ferocious farm cat in /Footrot Flats who terrorised the farm dogs, the staff and any other creature on the farm! So Horse he was named with a deliberate sense of irony!

Thanks for the correction! Really, thanks!!

RE: Retirement and prescriptions??
On the bright side, Wiggo does seem to be limping a lot less now so maybe his resting the leg is doing some good?
Julian, wash your mouth out!! Footrot flats is a kiwi cartoon!!!

RE: Retirement and prescriptions??

Incidentally, hehas been a real saviour for me when feeling so depressed. He followsme aroundand likes to jump up and lie in front of this here computer blocking the screen! SoIam trying with only alittle bitofsuccess so far to teach him to sit on command! I would claim 50% success so far!

I think the background to getting him is quite nice as well. In December 1011 my previous cat, a gorgeous silver tabby, named Horse after a cartoon cat in Australia from a series called Footrot Flats! died aged about 18 years old from his kidney failure and he was devoted to me. Horse would wait on the window ledge until I got home from work then run over and jump onto my lap. When in hospital after my little crash in August 2012, I was in an induced coma for 11 days apparently then back on the neurosurgical ward where I stayed for 4 months. I was Stir Crazy as prisoners describe it! I could not wait to get home and was thinking how lovely it would be to have Horse run over and greet me again after these months not seeing me. Then, I woke one night realising, "Oh No!! He had actually died 8months before! I felt dreadful, almost tearful when it was like he had died all over again! When my wife Annika visited the next day, I told her all of this as well and said that, "I think I am ready for a new cat to replace Horse if possible? But I want something very different and I always liked Maine Coones because they always seemed so soft and affectionate to owners, but can we get a ginger one and therefore different to any of our previous cats? When Annika got home , through the wonders of Google she found a Maine Coone breeder only about 5-6 miles away to our east. She visited, and they had new kittens so Annika took a photograph or three of these to show to me, we chose one as looking like a good candidate and happily on my day of discharge, at last!! we called in to collect our new kitten. The breeders called him Limpet because he would not leave them alone or let go. But as noted, his ginger face markings meant that he was only ever going to be called Wiggo by me!! [ After Sir Bradley Wiggins of course! **We have been blessed by getting this very affectionate and very docile hefty Maine Coone cross cat and he also raidly became very attached coming when called from outside within the first week or two of getting here. He is a bit of a terror for small birds. mice and voles and once brought in al large male stoat that must have weighed about a kilo being 45cm from nose to tail tip! Nevertheless the clear bite mark on the stoat's ventral throat was enough to finish it off!

By the way, having a cat called Horse is a sure way for a vet to lose credibility with your clients! "That is Horse", on showing them his photo This was answered with What?? That's not a horse! It's a cat!! What sort of vet are you?? Etc...!Followed by the explanation! All of this tended to take more than 7.5 minutes of course!

** We met Sir Bradley in 2014 in Lincoln when he gave a presentation and we told him this at which he laughed politely and was not offended at all!

RE: Retirement and prescriptions??

He is an exceedingly handsome cat!

RE: Retirement and prescriptions??
you might want to check what your internet pharmacy of choice has in stock before requesting a script.
Thank you Chris but as you can see above, being retired I do not have a wholesaler nor can I purchase from an internet retailer.
