Cervix should be open. Progesterone should be low
I would think the same. If the bitch had significant cystic endometritis than it's unlikely she would get pregnant in the first place. Now the progesterone is low and alizin won't do anything.
"prostaglandin f 2 alpha (in the United States) at a dose of 0.10-0.20 mg/kg q 12-24h for 3-5 days. "
You can use prostaglandines but I'm not sure why, there will be significant discharge from most bitches post partum for sometimes up to two months. Are you certain she requires treatment?
Anyone tried a washout with a urinary catheter??
Yes, I did a few. But depending on how involuted the uterus is you might struggle to pass blindly a urinary catheter through the cervix. In a 25kg bitch the cervix is about 15-20 cm deep and quite vertical. When we did it to treat pyometra we had to use a rigid endoscope to catheterise the cervix ,we flushed with saline and you can also introduce prostaglandines intrauterine through the catheter, it's amazing how fast it works. Makes a horrible mess though.

Cabergoline will stop the milk so bottle feeding for puppies and I'm not convinced it would help in post partum metritis.

Didn't use Cabergoline for ours as started improving rapidly as soon as started antibiotics.

RE: Alizin for post whelping metritis
What about Estrumate or something similar? Found this in one reference:

"prostaglandin f 2 alpha (in the United States) at a dose of 0.10-0.20 mg/kg q 12-24h for 3-5 days. "
I may recall incorrectly or have my hormones muddled, but I think as a young new graduate I gave a small breed pyometra that was refusing surgery an injection of prostaglandin. It stopped breathing according to the owner before he "resuscitated" it in the park shortly afterwards.

I kept my prostaglandins for cows after that and have not given a dog prostaglandin since. I believe them to be somewhat susceptible to adverse PG administration events (however this may well be dose related or some other known issue that has since been ironed out safely - still... not heard much of late on PG use in dogs, so I'd be EXTREMELY wary of what you read...
