I followed your recommendations and gave him a premed of methadone and metacam SC. Masked with isoflurane. Cross incision made on surface of abscess. Removed all purulent material and debrided the capsule until I was left with normal looking tissue. Gave 10mls of lactated ringers SC. He made an uneventful recovery from anaesthesia. I sent him home with oral metacam and baytril and manuka honey for the owner to pack into the abscess. At recheck 5 days later it was filling in very nicely and looking good and the GP had an improved appetite and was very well in himself.

RE: Guinea pig abscess/cyst?

Haha thank you

actually one of the things I like about it is that you can view your downloads in different territories. So a few months ago I was big in Korea

RE: Guinea pig abscess/cyst?

Thanks again!

I have a dose rate for meloxicam, but can't find one for methadone. What dosages would you use?

RE: Guinea pig abscess/cyst?

I think you could get away with lancing and draining this under General anaesthesia with good analgesia. For an old pig I would go with Meloxicam /methadone as a premed then gaseous anaesthesia.

The impacted "Cloaca". is normal for entire older boars.
