I would value advice on this case. She was referred to me a month ago for vomiting and diarrhoea and diagnosed pancreatitis and suspected but not confirmed IBD that has responded well to an exclusion diet on Purina HA although has occasional relapses

RE: Neutropaenia in a 5 year old Maine Coon

Dry FIP?

RE: Neutropaenia in a 5 year old Maine Coon

Lisa Gardbaum How about joining the Small Animal Medicine Society and posting on the SAMSoc forum?
Have reposted this.

Have done full faecal and awaiting just parvo PCR as even though fully vaccinated thought best to rule out as cause of neutropaenia and running proviral DNA for FeLV in case of bone marrow FeLV infection.

Faeces normal at present if just on Purina HA and diarrhoea if gives anything else.

Neutrophil count seems to low at 1.17 x 109/l to ignore or monitor so wonder if should start pred if parvo and FeLV negative as worried she will develop sepsis if continues to be this neutropaenic. Neutrophil count was low in 2018 but normal late last year then low again when referred to me for GI signs.

Thanks

Apologies that you haven't had a reply yet. I'm not an expert so there may be some more experienced/qualified responses following.

Are the neutrophil values you've had only an automated count? Have you done smears to confirm the neutropaenia and examine the blood cells to look for structural changes or anything odd this way?

She is systemically well - does this mean there is no more diarrhoea? What exactly is the consistency of the stools now? Some owners don't think a 'Mr Whippy' poo (3-4 on the faecal score chart) is considered diarrhoea. Could you extend the faecal sample to a full feline diarrhoea panel (if IDEXX is who you use) as that is good at picking up various viral causes too.

I wouldn't rush in to using steroids if the cat is clinically well at the moment.
