Puzzling over this case at work this week and looking for some suggestions of where to go next. Unfortunately cost is a real concern and so I want to prioritise any further diagnostics...

Very interesting! Will be back in touch with the owner tomorrow to see how he's doing.

RE: Neutropaenic Greyhound

Hi Mair,

So I guess the first question for me is whether this haematology is normal or abnormal for a greyhound as we know they often have low white cells/neutrophils. If you look at the expected range for this breed (there is a nice JSAP article on this looking at normal greyhounds) it gives a minimum value for WBC of 2.5 x10^9/L and neutrophils of 1.8 x10^9/L. So you could argue the total WBC is acceptable for this breed and the neuts are fairly close.

This could mean those findings are normal for this dog although that may only become clear as you see how things evolve.

Of course none of this helps work out what is wrong with the dog and something inflammatory causing further sequestration of neuts is also possible.

Ultimately if signs persist we likely need further investigation, maybe some imaging?
