I restart if six months late
I assume we're on dogs and referring to the lepto bit. [I think a dose of MLV DHP at any time as an adult suffices for many years protection?*]

I'm a bit vague on this currently.

I'd always been of belief that as long as had had 2 x lepto jabs 2-6 weeks apart of same type of lepto vaccine at some point in life, then a single jab suffices to restore immunity at any stage.

I tried to find where this belief had come from. I thought it was WSAVA Guidelines 2007. Here's what I found:

WSAVA Guidlines 2016

"65. When an animal first receives a vaccine that requires two doses to immunize (e.g. killed vaccines like Leptospira bacterins or feline leukaemia virus), and it does not return for the second dose within Ä6 weeks, is there any immunity?

No. A single dose of a two-dose vaccine does not provide immunity. The first dose is for priming the immune system, the second for immunizing. If a second dose is not given within 6 weeks of the first, the regime should start again, making sure the two doses are given within 2–6 weeks. After those two doses, revaccination with a single dose can be done at yearly or greater intervals to boost the response"

Seems vaguer than I remembered... not sure if wording changed from 2007 version (I checked the 2010 matches the 2016 and I don't seem to have an electronic version of the 2007 to check my memory out... now where did I put that hard copy...) or I just read into that a clear recommendation that perhaps wasn't there?

*[also, at risk of muddling a post on 2 separate questions... re DHP MLV in adult:

"45. If an animal has gone beyond the time that is generally considered to be the minimum DOI for the core vaccine (7 to 9 years for CDV, CPV‐2, CAV‐2; 7 years for FPV, FCV, FHV‐1), do I have to start the series of vaccinations again (multiple doses 2–4 weeks apart)?

No. For MLV vaccines, multiple doses are only required at the puppy or kitten age, when an animal has MDA. The VGG is aware that many data sheets do advise re‐starting a vaccination series, but does not endorse this practice which is inconsistent with fundamental immune system function and the principles of immunological memory."]

RE: Dog Vaccinations

Why be worried about interval between doses?

With Covid vaccine the trend seems to be ignore the manufacturers data and research data and just make it up! I know it’s an emergency to get plenty done but it’s novel technology and how shit will it be if retrospective studies show marked reduction in efficacy with 12 weeks or more between doses.
Apologies for digression.

RE: Dog Vaccinations

I must be old as well Joyce? When working in Burnley in the 1980s I would regularly see cases. Ibecame so familiar with them that you could make a tentative diagnosis when they walked in the door. Depressed, purulent keratoconjunctivitis and a gentle cough. My first part of the examination was placing my palm over their tempotral muscles. If ou cou;d feel a ticor twitch, then that would be a very poor oprognostic sign, indicating distemper encephalitis and a death sentence! I seem to recall seeing about twenty cases in vaccinated dogs inone two-year spell all of which were reported for which I got a letter of commendation for my enthusiasm , from the VMD!

Most significantly, the outbreaks occurred every 3-4 years, quite consisten;tly! Just as the general population's immunity waned I presumed?

Sorry that isall historic but maybe the 3/ or 4 year cycle still applies?

Last ones I saw were an outbreak in an rspca rehoming kennels, several dogs came in after rehoming with chorea or starting with seizures. Also saw some mild ones with a cough (similar to kennel cough) but also a snotty nose and (to me) pathognomic severely injected sclera with the other signs.

RE: Dog Vaccinations

thanks

RE: Dog Vaccinations
Lucy Fleming said:

which all of the UK effectively is - we use L4)
