Dog admitted with acute abdominal distension. I had no nurse available so called out so asked 2nd on call to come and help me. Opened the dog up and found an abdomen full of grain. The stomach had ruptured, Rang owner to explain and suggested PTS. Owner refused and asked us to do everything we could. That we did and just as we were finalising skin sutures the poor dog died. Rang owner to explain. My wife had the xmas dinner on so that was ruined as was xmas dinner for the 2nd on call Vet who had planned dinner with another practice vet so 3 dinners ruined. Happy days!!

RE: Xmas calvings

My colleague had a young cat shot with an air gun , with a pellet having gone through the abdominal cavity and lodged beside the kidney. Luckily the dog had done most of the hard work for me (being a chihuahua I imagine it's eye was already 3/4 of the way out pre-mysterious-incident).

The worst bit was that I had to turn the responsibility for the last bit of Christmas dinner prep over to my husband, who's not a great cook, and I wasn't there to defend my plate from having sprouts put on it before being put in the oven to keep warm...

(Oh, and that they were clearly vet hoppers who should have been going to a different clinic's OOH service...)

RE: Xmas calvings
Cake vomit at 9pm,
