This is an 8yo Staffordshire BT with odd looking raised non pruritic linear lesions on its abdomen. I think that there must be Staphylococcal involvement but would appreciate any help and advice.
Many thanks.

RE: Skin condition - help please.

I would love to hear how it goes, keep us updated.
if that is too harsh, there is a milder ketoconizole shampoo - dandrazol

RE: Skin condition - help please.

Hi,

I agree with Delia. I was still working out the orientation though! Especially if she is either generously proportioned or a bit 'droopy' underneath, it is well worth pustule cytology if you can find one (surface cytology could inform but might confuse with contaminants) Agree skin scrape to cover yourself, check parasite cover, topical treatment using formulated chorhexidine formulated shampoo ( to avoid a whole new intertriginous problem with over concentrated chlorhexidine), avoid antibiotics and reassess in 10days to 2 weeks and be ready to investigate further if it hasn't resolved.

RE: Skin condition - help please.

Hiya, are the linear lesions where the skin folds when he's the other way around? Or possibly where he's scratched when the owners aren't looking? The abdo skin has an acute on chronic look to it, there's a lot of hyperpigmentation. Get some impression smears to check for bacteria / yeast that could be complicating the picture, and use a chlorhexidine shampoo like Douxo pyo or clorexyderm 2 - 3 times a week to get rid of secondary infection, then see what you are left with. Being a staffy it would be worth doing skin scrapes as well. Good luck!

RE: Skin condition - help please.

Looks like lesions come in different shapes and sizes. Does this dog have any prior history of skin disease? How long have the lesions been present? Are lesions restricted to the abdomen? Was the onset sudden? Are the lesions still worsening? How long do the individiual lesions persist? Are there any in-contacts (animal or human) with skin problems? Is it on any mediication? Have you proposed/dispensed any treatment yet and if so what was the clinical response? Has it recently had wormers, supplements, vaccination boosters? Is it well in itself? Appetite? Thirst? Urticaria/drug reaction/erythema multiforme would be possible differentials.
