The first is that it is a chemical not a medicine. It is not licensed anywhere that I know of. It is not psychoactive therefore does not appear to come under misuse of drugs legislation.

As far as I am aware an owner can do pretty much anything to their own pets as long as it does not lead to suffering etc to bring it under welfare legislation.

I am not clear if an import certificate would be granted except for experimental use which would bring it under an additional raft of rules and regulations.

In effect this makes the owner right. It is his/her pet and they can do what they want as long as it does not fall foul of the legislation above. We cannot import and use it even under cascade as far as I can see despite it being related to certain anti-viral drugs in existence. Have these been tried in cats?

RE: Novel FIP treatment – GS-441524
We did check with the VMD
Interesting if the OP response is accurate of the VMD position there is a case of criminal activity here, which the VMD didnt want to follow up or refer to the appropriate authorities (Trading standards or Police)??

RE: Novel FIP treatment – GS-441524

Interested observers I suspect!

All we can do is warn owners about the dodgy nature of the supplies.

Thanks for this clarification. I posted on here a while ago about one of our clients sourcing it by herself from the USA. Her basic response to my colleague was 'it's my cat, I'll treat it how I want'. We did check with the VMD but IIRC there wasn't much we could do.

If clients are sourcing it themselves from overseas, what position would we be in?

RE: Novel FIP treatment – GS-441524

Is there still a role for Prednisolone in treating FIP? .
