Does anyone have anymore information on this?.
My orginal note was from 2009!
Currently have a suspected CETL/ CTCL skin awaiting biospy result-dog non responsive to all previous therapies-now has had dramatic improvement on this combo in last

RE: Gerry Polton, unpublished series of 9 dogs 'epitheliotropic lymphoma' with response to Clindamycin/Metacam-old thread

Wow-thank you for all of this Beats-I am truly grateful.

I hope I had not linked him with the wrong reference but as you noted-there is a mention of 8 dogs with lost info and the reference to antibiotic/Metacam so there may be a credible link.

I didn’t do cytology; the dog had already been heavily treated with Convenia/Malaseb-no response-and owner very keen money directed to an actual diagnosis only.

I used the Clindamycin out of curiosity to see what impact it would have whilst o organised to get dog in for biopsy and was surprised at the response. Some antibiotics are classified as ' anti-tumour antibiotics' and/or anti-inflammatory activity and I wonder if this is the case here?

I worried about Cytopoint because doesn’t reduce inflammation to a great level just the pruritis-which this dog not really afflicted with except as lesions now appeared in the mouth.

O has declined referral for traditional chemo. She is keen to keep going with clindamycin, wean off preds which had done nothing, add in Metacam and also Safflower which has been reported to help remission in this case plus use topical Aldara/Imiquimod focally on targeted lesions as some work on Aldara for Focal Mycosis Fungoides variant external use.

I did consider adding in the EFAs by Essential 6 application on the ventrum not neck-dog likes to lie on back sleeping so we could do an un-orthodox application ventrodorsally.

I am aware some of this is 'Frontier stuff' that could make some reader vets nervous but as long as obey first rule of medicine and this 14 yr old dog getting relief rather than getting worse. I am prepared to give it a go.

(did you do cytology first?)

I have done an exhaustive internet search and can find no evidence that Gerry Polton has recently recommended the use of clindamycin as a specific treatment for epitheliotropic lymphoma.

His thoughts on epitheliotropic lymphoma over 7 years ago (perhaps 9?) can be found in this thread:

https://www.vetsurgeon.org/001/veterinary-clinical/small-animal/oncology/f/discussions/17567/bright-ideas---epitheliotropic-lymphoma/105104#105104

and have largely been validated as relatively unchanged as recently as this thread 2 years ago (discussing oral low-grade form and talking of a case series of 10 that were lost):

https://www.vetsurgeon.org/001/veterinary-clinical/small-animal/oncology/f/discussions/26993/t-cell-lymphoma-on-the-mouth#pifragment-5598=1

The most recent I can find info is:

https://vimeo.com/425778266

which, while not by Gerry Polton, is from only June 2020 (so quite recent) by a fellow oncologist that works under Gerry at NDSR and thus one can assume some level of working similarities in case approach perhaps, and does mention the use of antibacterials for secondary infection (and indeed such options I have never had opportunity to use, such as cytopoint and other symptomatic relief options where appropriate which may not have featured in previous recommendations - I recommend watching this as a useful 2020 update to managmeent.).

RE: Gerry Polton, unpublished series of 9 dogs 'epitheliotropic lymphoma' with response to Clindamycin/Metacam-old thread

I’m guessing Gerry still works at North Downs Specialist Referrals.
