Hi there,
looking for some help in this unusual case. 11 week old, male Boxer pup, developed anal swelling which is progressing. It is not painful, not obviously inflamed but is getting bigger. He is the only one in the litter with this problem.

RE: anal hypertrophy in Boxer pup

I wonder if it might reduce with castration?
The anus is quite huge by now about 9cm from top to bottom, but I agree at the moment only cosmetic issue.

I had left untreated for several weeks and we decided to trial isaderm just to see if that has any effect.

RE: anal hypertrophy in Boxer pup

This doesn't seem like a clinical issue, more cosmetic, which begs the question why does it need any treatment?

I certainly wouldn't be throwing fusidic acid or even topical steroids at these - there is no evidence of inflammation or infection on the photos as far as I can see.

RE: anal hypertrophy in Boxer pup

No idea really - but I used to have a client who kept bloodhounds and they often had excessively sticky-out and unpleasant looking bottoms. Seemed normal for them....
