In cats, most people leave at least some of the uterus
For a rabbit with a larger uterus can we simply just remove the ovaries? Less trauma, adhesions and surgical time.
Thanks in advance

This is a great question and should be the subject of a study.

The question for me is as Mary points out is does it stop uterine cancer? Personally ~I have my doubts.

It certainly as you suggest would reduce adhesion morbidity.

The next question is if it does prevent Uterine neoplasia, how about deslorelin implants?, No surgery at all in that case.

These are important questions as rabbits are used as a model for adhesion formation in human studies.

So many questions, so little time...

My own experience of older rabbits is that they commonly develop uterine tumours and therefore would prefer to remove the uterus at the time of neutering. There is a question around the chances of an animal developing a uterine tumour after removal of the ovaries, and some have suggested that this will not happen. In my own experience this has not been the case. But that is purely anecdotal. I think more research is required to prove things either way.
