The presence of cysts in the kidneys as well would suggest this may be part of polycystic disease as suggested, although it would be unusual for this to be accompanied by the biochemical changes (raised ALT, TBil) so I wonder if there is something else going on as well.

Were you able to evaluate the biliary tract on ultrasound? Any bile duct dilation for example?

This might be one that would benefit from Specialist ultrasound if thats something you could organise?

Hi Andrew,

I’ve PM’d the bloods to you (and Kate) as I couldn’t upload them to the thread.
The liver on ultrasound was diffusely abnormal, with multiple cystic lesions of varying sizes throughout the parenchyma. Similar cystic lesions were seen in both kidneys.

It might be useful to know more info about what you saw on ultrasound and at surgery. It sounds like this may just be a benign incidental finding but, as indicated in the report, we may not be able to determine that from a single biopsy or indeed from histopathology alone.

The cat described in the paper didn’t do well long term if I recall as I spoke Elisa about my case and referred it to her. Hence we decided on medical management and I think it lived about as long as the cat that had surgery.

Hello Andrew, above is the histopath report but I don’t have the blood results at home.

The cat initially present very wel in himself, normal appetite and normothermic. The day of the biopsies he was mildly pyrexic with a reduced appetite.

Bear with me, I will attach blood results tomorrow.

Is it similar to this? I had a case earlier this year, cat well but yellow as anything! Cysts hypothesised to cause partial/intermittent biliary obstruction, hence why they stay 'well' but yellow. My case was managed medically with ursodiol (destolit) and amoxyclav and was euthanased approx 5months (I think, would need to check records) after diagnosis, Samylin won't hurt if the cat will take it happily.

Could you post the full histopath and blood results please?

Cystic biliary proliferation can be seen as part of cystadenoma formation but with the fibrosis I wonder about ductal plate malformation or other unusual cause. Depending who read the pathology could be worth getting a second opinion from a pathologist with an interest in hepatobiliary disease.
