This is fine, but faffy compared with simply adding water to betamox palatable drops and handing to client...

And those big amoxicillin bottles start to clutter up the medicines to incinerate box...

But is probably what I'd do if confirm that Amoxycare has gone to the graveyard along with Betamox. I'll send Animalcare an email to confirm.

i guess I'll start by phoning to follow up on palatability of one we have on shelf and come back here for recommendations opf other brands/flavours if not as great as could be.

But a 100ml bottle for reconstitution is a couple of quid through a human wholesaler. Mix it, dispense it and bin the rest.

Much cheaper than the veterinary versions and not worth splitting. Banana or strawberry flavour?

If amoxicillin is the clinical choice and there is no other way to get the dose right then cascade will allow the human product to be used.

I'll take any tips on use.

powder in a bottle (the one I have on shelf anyway), so have to make up the whole big bottle in one go. I don't like dispensing such a vastly larger amount of antbiotic than needed to a cat, so then syringing some out into smaller bottle. Fine. But then have large bottle of antibiotic needing incinerated (or marked in fridge and kept for a bit, but that hasn't really worked out too well in my experience and is just more hassle) in medicines waste box...

Alternative would be splitting the powder into small bottles, but that sounds like a H&S nightmare to me.

The one I have smells different too to good old betamox palatable drops... there's probably quite a variation in flavouring that may affect palatability in cats - I was hoping I wouldn't need to conduct my own taste tests with patients to find out which ones are well tolerated on ham or into mouth...

I don't know for sure but I suspect these are all made by the same manufacturer.

Amoxicillin BP is widely available for paediatric use. Can be used under cascade if needs be. There is no justification for clavulanic acid except on clinical grounds. Vets seem to forget amoxicillin is still a useful antibiotic and is cheap as chips compared to synulox/clones.

Bova or Summit may do a version. If not then give them a call. They may be able to formulate something if there is a big enough market.

Amoxicillin always worked on its own for me, so I don't like clobbering the gut bugs with clavulanate unecessarily - seems a shame, but yes, we have got some synulox palatable drops in stock now (and some pediatric amoxicillin liquid - but it is in huge bottles) as alternatives presently.

I always found betamox palatable drops were taken on ham or fine to squirt into mouth without an issue.

None of these are palatable for cats and only sometimes palatable for dogs as they are all human drugs - I find they tend to be strawberry flavour! Does anyone do an actual palatable liquid formulation?
