I just wondered what medications people were using to try to calm aggressive/stressed dogs prior to examination? I have had good responses with gabapentin in cats, but haven't really used anything consistently in dogs.
Thanks!

Can work really well and at least allow a muzzle to be applied, or an injectable sedative to be given.

I have also used it for social visits for a few really difficult dogs, and it definitely helps, but you can't trust them without a muzzle so take care if you have to do more than offer a treat!

RE: Medication to facilitate examination

We use a “bad dog combo” - really for stressy dogs, but is effective in most at chilling them out a bit. And I’ve used injectable sedation after it. It is trazodone at 10mg/kg (round down) and gaba at 20mg/kg (round up). Give a dose the night before coming and another dose about 90 minutes before consult.

RE: Medication to facilitate examination

Trazodone if stressed/anxious, haven't had a need for anything more than that for a while but maybe Sileo gel might help?
