Owner came with little brown pot with 200mg paracetamol labelled and tablets engraved with "B" to get more.
I've never seen them before and was curious.
Thanks.

RE: 200mg paracetamol
should I be interested in learning more about this instead?
It's up to you...memantine is an alternative to amantidine, thought to be useful for chronic pain due to NMDA receptor interactions. I believe there's only one small study on amantidine in dogs, and pretty much none on memantine, so realistically we should use amantidine before memantine. However, anecdotally there's less incidence of vomiting with memantine, and as it is a tablet rather than capsule splitting doses is easier. It's also cheaper! The above info comes from Gwen Covey-Crump at the Langford pain clinic, I hope I haven't misquoted her as it's coming from my memory.

Mine's been on metacam for years (traumatic hock injury from RTA at 1yr old) and recently had an episode of back pain, has improved since adding the memantine (unfortunately, as it led to her then being able to hurdle over our front gate and get into a fight with our next door neighbour's dog, her mortal enemy).Perhaps would have just resolved with time anyway. We're about to finish the pack so may try without and watch for any deterioration

RE: 200mg paracetamol

Probably a tangent... but:

that's new to me.

Having temporarily set 200mg chicken-smelling paracetmol aside, should I be interested in learning more about this instead?

RE: 200mg paracetamol

We've got some of these on the shelf at the moment, we ordered them in while we were struggling to get normal paracetamol at the height of pandemic panic. Can confirm they have a "B" on them.

I used some for my own dog a while back, as the dose was more convenient for me. They smell chickeny, but sadly the least fussy dog in the world would not eat them, so they obviously aren't that palatable (for context, she currently takes 1/2 a memantine tablet a day just chucked in her bowl of RCW kibble, and has only ever spat out lettuce and orange peel)

So, if 200mg is massively more covenient for you than 500mg, may be worth it, but probably not for the flavouring.

RE: 200mg paracetamol

We use several BOVA products for cats, great company and always open to new product suggestions.
Or preferable to paracetamol oral suspension?

RE: 200mg paracetamol

We use a few of their products. Some equine (sucralfate and pergolide pasts mainly). Liquid gabapentin is good for stroppy cats. Sucralfate paste is also handy. They make a liquid prednisolone too. Beware though that some of their products have a short shelf life. I haven’t tried their paracetomol, but we are struggling to get liquid paracetomol at present so it might be worth looking at.

RE: 200mg paracetamol

I can confirm BOVA is the source of 200mg 4-way splittable chicken-smelling compounded paracetamol tablets.

They are relatively inexpensive (compared to their other products, not compared to ASDA 500mg paracetamol) and may be of use in smaller patients where splitting a 500mg standard paracetamol is not practical and I normally use a pediatric oral suspension instead.

Still interested if anyone has personal experience of this product and whether they rate it or not?

[I don't think I've ever used any of the BOVA stuff to-date: so any other products they have that you rate would be interested also]

RE: 200mg paracetamol

Thanks guys - I think by process of elimination must be BOVA.
