"Sweat glands: absent footpads and nasal planum."
This does not seem to tally with my histology text (Bacha and Bacha, 3rd

RE: Do cats and dogs have sweat glands on foot pads?

Epitrichial (apocrine) sweat glands are distributed throughout haired skin, but not found in footpads or nasal planum. Atrichial (merocrine) sweat glands are found in canine and feline footpads, but not thought to be in hairy skin. The degree to which dogs and cats sweat, the areas of the body involved, and the circumstances in which they sweat, is reported to be very variable. Atrichial sweating may be seen from the footpads in stressed or excited dogs and cats. Hence what we see in the consulting room.

RE: Do cats and dogs have sweat glands on foot pads?

The confusion over this comes because there are two types of sweat glands. Those associated with hair follicles and those that are independent. Thus it is commonly said that dogs cannot sweat except from their feet (atrichial glands). However they have epitrichial sweat glands all over associated with hairs. There is disagreement about the nature of the glandular secretion (Merocrine versus holocrine etc) in some texts. I disagree with no glands on the nose, as we see cases of neurogenic dryness affecting this area.
