I have only seen photos due to coronavirus restrictions . Biopsy 2 months ago said grade 2 mct. Cat 13but well . Owners initially didn’t want surgery and

RE: Mast cell tumour on eyelid

the lip to lid transfer does depend on an intact Levator palpebrae m. and orbiculares m being intact . the safest solution would be an orbitotomy and extenuation ,some clients cant accept the visual consequences of this .

RE: Mast cell tumour on eyelid

The cat has been on steroids for three months and they have become less effective over the last week or so. Its also possible to resect normally then split the remaining lid and slide the edges apart. Much less skin to play with in cats so the sliding canthoplasties don't tend to work as well and leave problems with trichiasis . I have done Mustarde technique a few times in dogs , it works well taking skin from the bottom lid to the top in 2 stages . . Mast cells will sometimes shrink a lot with steroids and TK inhibitors so may be worth some pre surgery treatment . There are always flaps and free grafts, cosmetics are important you don't want it looking like one of Hannibal Lecters victims.

RE: Mast cell tumour on eyelid

I do hate it when owners say it’s not worrying the cat. What they often mean is the cat is still eating.
I won’t comment on the surgery, Sam is far better qualified on that front than me! But I would check the cat elsewhere for mast cell pathology- haematology with a smear, local lymph nodes and abdomen scan with spleen/liver FNAs if poss or at least talk to the owners about the possibility of systemic disease and thus prognosis. Even if present surgery may be warranted for palliative reasons

RE: Mast cell tumour on eyelid

Hi Janine, I've just replied on the other forum :)
