The human product it is derived from, denteshield, seems to be primarilly used as a pit and fissure sealant or for use around orthodontic devices. It doesn't appear to be used in the same way in people as it is being marketed for in animals.

RE: Ginigishield

None as yet I'm afraid. I was intending to grill the reps about it in Brum.

(I'm still getting myself round Sanos).

I'm a little sceptical.

For one thing, amidst all the puffery, they don't tell you what it actually is. But reading carefully, it seems to be a straightforward unfilled light cured resin, which incorporates the magic non-leaching antibacterial ingredient "Seldox" – but they don't tell you what Seldox actually is.

For another thing, it seems to be the idea that you put it all over the enamel of the whole tooth. And they associate this with gingival health but very cleverly avoid directly claiming that their product will assist gingival health. Their advertisement shows it being painted over the whole tooth. But it is only plaque that is subgingival and a millimetre (or maybe 2mm) supragingival that has any relevance to gingival health. Other than possible cosmetic effect I am intensely relaxed about plaque way up on the coronal areas.(It can be different in humans where they have to worry about caries).

For another thing, its application involves etching the enamel. And indeed they seem to be suggesting that it should be renewed annually. (But don't get me started on the dreadful "routine annual dental" idea! ). Now cats and dogs don't have a great deal of depth of enamel to spare, unlike humans (as we frequently discuss in relation to the polishing question), and I am very uncomfortable with the idea of annually etching every tooth all over.
