A colleague of mine saw a dog with suspected distemper a few weeks ago, finances meant the dog was euthanased, and no confirmatory tests were carried out. i remember it because none of the rest of us had seen one.

Have never vaccinated one myself, but at uni (I graduated in 2009), we were recommended to use Eurican (Merial) DHPPi diluted in 5ml diluent and give 0.5ml of this s/c. Apparently the vaccination should be based on the Ondersterport strain of the virus...

I've used Nobivax DHPPi in ferrets before and I believe Intervet recommended half a dose per ferret.

I've never seen Distemper in a dog either in 13yrs of practice but one of my colleagues did see a ferret with distemper just 2 weeks ago confirmed with PCR. First one we've had in the practice in the last 13 yrs as far as I am aware.

to be fair have never seen, or even heard of a case of distemper in dogs

What about ferrets that are walked on a harness in public places?

Both live vaccines, which I would not recomend in ferrets. Unfortunately, I do not know of a killed distemper vaccine. Since a)the incidence of distemper in this country is low, and b) most ferrets are not allowed to roam, I recomend not vaccinating, as the risks are greater than the potential benefits

We have used both Nobivac DHPPi & Duramune DAPPi for ferrets but both diluted in water and not the lepto componant. Initially 2 vaccines 3 - 4 weeks apart followed by annual boosters. Off licence but according to the manufacturers, widely used and safe. We do the same for skunks.
