An overseas wildlife rescue centre has been troubleshooting and asked for help with the management of their wild birds of prey recovery patients. I was given some scant history of one patient, a common buzzard with a reduced open fracture

RE: Recurrent issue with mortality in wild birds of prey within 2 weeks of seemingly good recovery after surgery

Thank you Evelyn. I am not sure if the procedure was done by a vet or a human doctor. I totally share your comment re the meds.

Environmentally: bleach is a very good disinfectant indeed.

Topically: hibitane? Or Vetericyn (which is of course just expensive bleach).

Nebulisation: dunno – but is that really necessary?

And two more things puzzle me:

The surgery was presumably done by a veterinary surgeon. Should not he or she be investigating, doing post-mortems?

And secondly
ceftriaxone injections, oral nystatin, synulox and katozal.
does it really need all those drugs together?

I'm quite happy to be shot down by someone more up in avian medicine than me.
