https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17591293/

There are a lot of papers published on this and the first one that I looked at gives median survival time of 3 years after thyroidectomy which seems pretty good to me. Surgery is always the first option as suggested by others here

For widespread disease radio-iodine is the treatment of choice. Good luck with this case. .

RE: Thyroid carcinoma - what now?

Dear Richard,

For microscopic disease carboplatin and meloxicam, if you have residual gross disease such as metastasis to the lungs (that I would check for) definitely toceranib and meloxicam:-)

Regards and stay safe,

I did wonder why I hadn't heard of it as a treatment option, but then I saw a mention of it in an ACVS article (but that's america, so who knows!)

RE: Thyroid carcinoma - what now?

from what I have been able to find, carboplatin or doxirubicin gives variable results on metastatic spread, there is metronomic rx but haven't found what product - just mentioned as option and as dog thyroid tumours generally not active, radioactive iodine ineffective

RE: Thyroid carcinoma - what now?

Radioiodine is the treatment of choice for thyroid carcinoma in cats, I believe, but may be a fairly different disease process.
