Some females can have a silent season with no vulvar swelling or discharge. If you attempt to bring them in season while they are in the luteal phase (whic can be up to 3 months in some bitches) they either take forever to come in season or will not ovulate.

PMSG protocol is not my favourite as many don't ovulate.

Cabegoline works very well if the progesterone is basal but 2-3 weeks is the average. Some may need 4-5 weeks of cabergoline and I would continue until LH surge.

If they want a speedy result then Suprelorin implant can induce an ovulatory oestrus in 7-10 days. You would have to take it out around ovulation time to prevent hypoluteoidism and absorbtion of the puppies. Easy to use and remove if applied superficially in the naval region or vulvar.

RE: Oestrus induction in dogs

I believe you can use cabergoline (Galastop) for induction of oestrus - we looked into it a few years ago but if I recall correctly the bitch came into season before we ended up instigating the therapy.

Looks like some good information here: https://www.vin.com/apputil/content/defaultadv1.aspx?meta=&pId=11147&id=3846291

RE: Oestrus induction in dogs

we have one on go at present - we tested anti-Mullerian activity (AMH idexx - Larry Roberts) to see if ovaries active and apparently galastop at normal dose rate sid should bring into oestrus within 2-3 weeks as long as not had season within last 100 days.
