i have a lady with backyard chickens . One has had what appears to be a blockage or egg retention since December. Chicken bright and eating with normal droppings but large painful solid mass rostal to cloaca. X-ray hopefully attached.
Its likely a pyometra so essentially a salpinx filled with scrambled egg. A lateral view under ga would be helpful.

These can be spayed if the owner is aware of the risks and funds

I use a ventral midline approach, making the incision more of an L shape when I reach the keel (the incision turning right)

The salpinx has quite a few blood vessels but can usually be resected successfully.

Analgesia is very important. Morbidity incidence is high.
