I think they'd read about it in relation to the Dog Aging Project in the US who are doing a trial on it and have published some early study ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5411365/ )

RE: Rapamycin

I'm not sure that study tells me anything, but i'd need to check with a cardiologist! A 10 week study is unlikely to conclude that rapamycin might be a life-lengthening drug.

In the event that I was wishing to spend money on a medicine that may increase the life expectancy of my dog non-specifically, I don't think rapamycin (based on this) is a strong contender currently.

Propentofylline? Nicergoline? Pimobendan? VitaminE? All potential alternative contenders?

Has anyone ever seen a side effect from pimobendan? If giving a dog a medicine on the hope if may extend its lifespan, I'd probably choose pimobendan based on what I know to-date?

I think panaceas are rare, but come in fads. When I was at school a teacher suggested that taking a little aspirin a day may lengthen our lives - I think that fad has ended?

I would predict this will come to nothing, but one never knows.

I saw a dog today that I removed a splenic hemangiosarcoma from over 2 years ago now. Indeed my last 4 splenic haemangiosarcoma-dogs are all alive and well. There can be only one explanation - I used catgut. Do you think this will start a craze?

What I'd like to see is one of these big data things looking at dog castration and life expectancy - perhaps this has been done already? And cat vaccines and CKD - maybe a bit harder to get the data on that one? And annual anesthetic for dental work and life expectancy?
