I have just ordered in a paracetamol suspension and found that it has 3.7% v/v ethanol. Seeing as this dog is very sensitive to buprenorphine (owner very upset at seeing the dog ataxic) and she is already on pregabalin, and the very reason I

RE: Ethanol as a diluent in medicines

I used Frusol solution in a cat recently with suspected heart failure and the cat seemed very sleepy after dosing so I checked and it contains ethanol so I wondered if was possibly a side effect of the ethanol, however I checked with Kieran Borgeat (cardiology specialist) and he said he uses it loads with no ill effects, so didn't think it was likely to be responsible, however, I guess it's always possible some animals will have individual sensitivities; it may equally have just been a coincidence and due to its underlying disease (as also developed regurgitation alongside its arrthymia and diagnosis changed to likely neoplasia in the end.

RE: Ethanol as a diluent in medicines

Six plus is twice the strength. I don't think that 14.5ml of weak beer is likely to have much of an effect on even the most abstemious person.... I have found Boot's own brand paracetamol suspension which seems to be free of ethanol and xylitol. I guess the 500ml bottle ordered in will just sit on the shelf unused.
