I have never tried and suspect the answer is "no" or "not advisable", but as I don't wish to harm a perfectly good DCP (nor perfectly good impant cutters...) experimenting

RE: Cutting a DCP with implant cutters?

[quote userid="3169" url="~/001/veterinary-clinical/small-animal/orthopaedics/f/discussions/28776/cutting-a-dcp-with-implant-cutters/218638"]ust taken a chunk out of the carbide jaws on my close pin cutters today on a larger than recommended pin.
There is a special place in veterinary hell for those who try and cut pins that are too thick with small pin cutters.

RE: Cutting a DCP with implant cutters?

Thanks guys!
VI website on benefits of asymmetrical DCPs (ASYM - registered trade mark) also suggests another disadvantage of cutting DCPs as: "Plate modification to remove holes is time consuming, wasteful and without the right equipment and attention to detail, can leave a sharp or rough end that can hold bacteria and irritate soft tissues or leave contaminants on the plate surface."

RE: Cutting a DCP with implant cutters?

Just taken a chunk out of the carbide jaws on my close pin cutters today on a larger than recommended pin. We’ve stocked cuttable plates in the past. A 3.5mm DCP plate is pretty thick and robust so can’t see you actually be able to cut it. Just had a quick look on VI website and found these: https://veterinary-instrumentation.co.uk/catalog/internal-fixation/plates-dcp-and-locking/3-5mm-plates/3-5mm-cuttable-plates
