As I said, I think the danger is of thinking of the title in isolation, when it will never appear so (it would always appear alongside something which explains further).

Still, seems to me that the direction we are headed in here is 'Expert Help'.

Do I hear any other bids, ladies and gentleman?

Personally, I think something to do with ‘Expert’ is the most important part. ‘Help’ could quite easily describe the general discussion forums.

There are lots of ways that it stands out from the forum, but which I can't include in the title, else it would be way, way too long: Ask-The-Carefully-Screened-As-Being-Knowledgeable-Qualified-Or-Experienced-And-Friendly-Helpful-And-Kind-Team-Of-Colleagues-Who-Will-Focus-On-One-Thing-And-One-Thing-Only-Which-Is-to-Answer-Your-Question-In-A-Helpful-And-Supportive-Way.

I'm being tongue-in-cheek, but the point is serious, which is that not everything can be conveyed in the title. The question really is what is the most important thing to convey first, which will cause you to read on and learn more.

To be fair, everything is all over the web :)

The other thing I think about 'help' is that it feels (to me) more approachable. Putting a question to an expert is something that some people feel a bit afraid of, lest the expert (or anyone watching) thinks their question is stupid. I sort of think that is less the case if you are just asking for some help from a group of peers (some of whom happen to be experts).

I would go - 'Ask an Expert'. 'Help' is all over the web. A&E = Ask an Expert - all-vowels roll off the 'mind's tongue'. If you make a graphic access button with relevant images - cartoon face in surgical mask, stethoscope etc. etc. - that would stand out. r

Hmm.

Difference is that 'Help' on its own is both a verb and a noun (which both have relevant meanings here), whereas Expert Help is just the noun.

How about:

Help

('Advice' sounds a bit flat to me, and also doesn't convey that you can ask a question (which is sort of inherent in 'help')

Well, I'd throw that back at you and ask what would you like it to do. I think it should be as broad a remit as possible, and yes, should be to discuss a drug or procedure, not just cases.

I agree it is a bit cliched. And I also agree the plural is better, both because it somehow sounds a bit less cliched, but also because you are not asking one person.

George Cooper You know what, I really rather like that!

It says why you're using it. It sets the tone for the questions and the way they are replied to. And perhaps, just using help means you don't have to say anything in the title about who you are getting hep from. That can be explained in the subtext:

Dentistry > Help!

The only problem with "Ask The Expert" is that it is so boring. Every little pet magazine seems to have a page headed thus.

However, if you are going to go for this, I'd suggest making it "Ask The Experts". A tiny difference, but it conveys a subtly different flavour.

I agree with Kate in principal - it is clear what is being offered.

This is true, and one needs to be careful how the "experts" are described, though as far as I know, "specialist" should be avoided, but I'm not sure that the RCVS would prevent the use of other words such as "expert".

"Ask some people who have self-declared that they have a particular interest in...." is not very catchy...

It's a question of degree! And the subjective interpretation of the word expert. I think we will need to allow some GPs who have been on practice a long time, and have a track record of helpful posts, and a declared interest in a clinical area. I am not sure if they would count in most people's definition of 'expert'.

Thanks, although IMO 'Ask the Expert' may be construed as something to use as a last-ditch attempt, rather than an open forum for questions.

It doesn't have to be 'The Differential', but I liked the idea of it being called that, or something similar; as when DDx are formed, questions are asked and answered (either though history taking, examinations, or lab tests).

You have contradicted yourself in the same post If the people you choose to be on the panel to answer these questions aren't very knowledgeable about or skilful in a particular area then they shouldn't on the panel?

When you (vets) normally think of a differential, or a differential diagnosis, what are you thinking of? Is it two (or more) different diagnostic possibilities based on the clinical evidence in front of you, or can it ALSO be two different diagnostic possibilities based on two different opinions of the same clinical evidence presented.

Does that make sense? What i am trying to say is that when you are making a differential diagnosis, is asking a colleague an intrinsic part of a differential diagnosis?

If it is, then that I do like that idea. It does convey the clinical aspect to this that I want to get across, although I'd like to try and convey the fact that this is something you use to ask questions.

Perhaps, simply, 'Differential Questions'? What would you (everyone) understand from that? Would it eliminate broader questions: 'What does the panel think of x drug?'
