Uveitis is clearing, just small area of blue tinge now, bright and playful, pretty much back to normal!

Really glad, now just wondering what to do about his 2nd vaccine. Will probably contact MSD again and see what their advice is, but considering just doing lepto for 2nd (he was 10 wks at 1st vac, so technically just needs a lepto at 2nd, although we would usually do full course for pups) However, I then worry that he maybe hasn't immunoconverted with the first vaccine, due to illness etc, so really should repeat! Titres??

RE: Uveitis following vaccination in a 10 week old puppy! Spoke to MSD today and they said that the CAV-2 they use is not totally related to the CAV1 strain so shouldn't cause uveitis (as it's linked to respiratory issues, but gives cross immunity) They haven't ruled out vaccine reaction, but we are wondering if dog could have somehow been exposed to adenovirus prior to vaccine, which then relapsed post-vac. have also had an e-mail from ophthalmologist at GUVS saying similar, he advised continuing with maxitrol QID, and says many of these will clear in days, so fingers crossed! he suggested doing bloods and getting a CAV1 and CAV2 titre. Owner says dog looking a bit happier today, and she thinks eyes are clearing.. MSD have also offered to help with investigative costs if needs more investigation, so that is good news.

Will keep you posted

RE: Uveitis following vaccination in a 10 week old puppy!
Also poor pup still blind. Especially since it wasn’t too well the week before and from a possibly dodgy source. I can remember as a young graduate in the 80s seeing unvaccinated pups with uveitis related to adenovirus infection. They usually cleared themselves with supportive therapy as needed if they were off colour.

RE: Uveitis following vaccination in a 10 week old puppy!
Adenovirus

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6304988

Diffuse clouding of the cornea ('corneal oedema', 'blue eye') of sudden onset and usually transient duration and with accompanying anterior uveitis, may be attributable to natural infection with canine adenovirus type 1 (CA-1) or to vaccination with live modified virus. It is now recognised that kerato-uveitis is a manifestation of type III hypersensitivity in which immune complex formation resulting from the release of virus, especially from infected corneal endothelial cells, brings about corneal endothelial damage and hence corneal oedema. A proportion of cases fail to resolve. At least one breed, the Afghan hound, appears to be particularly susceptible. The incidence of ocular lesions resulting from vaccination has stimulated the development of new vaccines incorporating canine adenovirus type 2 (CAV-2), a serotype which has been shown not be cause endogenous ocular disease.

Depends on your vaccine I guess
