The client comes in saying 'he's on xxx, I've seen live fleas on my dog/cat, therefore the product is rubbish'

Which (see original start to this thread) is exactly what I say to clients. I follow this up with all flea products work, it's compliance that's the issue. If you don't treat your dog/cat for 8 weeks there is a 4 week window when the whole cycle starts all over again so you are in effect starting that 18 month (life of an egg/pupae) cycle all over again

I also tell people to stop wasting their money on all this crazy environmental products, flea bombs, a marketing dream aren't they, how do they work?

I love Bravecto, it helps enormously on the compliance issue

Hi.

There is a Bayer funded study (2012 -Efficacy of an imidacloprid/flumethrin collar against fleas, ticks, mites and lice on dogs) that evaluates the efficacy of the collar against fleas (and ticks). Its efficacy against fleas in 24h is 100%. I also find it helpful that of all the tested dogs none of them went on to develop Flea Bite Allergy - allegedly thanks to the residual larvicidal effect in the surrounding environment which according to the study lasted to 35 weeks, I think that I why I have experienced in practice mimics the study, and I often recommend the collar to clients with persistent flea infestations or FBA ( I do not work for Bayer... :-) Bravecto is still my favourite product to recommend (very versatile and increased parasiticide range) but Seresto is worth considering in some patients... I think...

[/quote]

I have reported several Seresto failures to Bayer and was offered the loan of a flea trap! I have lost a lot of my confidence in imidocloprid.

I classify a failure as being any situation where a product should reasonably have worked. No swimming/shampoos/collar not too loose etc etc. I have had a number where the product should have worked but did not.

When Advantage first came out you put it on a cat and they walked away from a pile of sick/dying/dead fleas within minutes. Not now!

RE: Live fleas on my dog

Hi.
