Thank you for your input, Bob, very interesting. I have only used it on a small number of cases do far as it is relatively expensive and I hadn't seen much convincing evidence. Could you point me in the right direction to find the evidence ( I was only aware of the study published in JVD a couple of years ago).

Indeed so. There's plenty in the bottle. I have no idea why the manufacturers recommend to apply to buccal and labial surfaces only.

If you use a forum like this to discuss (& perceptually appear to agree) a pricing structure - you could be liable to anti-competitive legislation. This has serious fines & consequences.

I use SANOS widely - every case will benefit. Previously in my first opinion practice we had something like 40% uptake for all dentals. It seems to me an excellent product - with a good evidence base. It has been shown to be active for at least 6 months for subgingival protection. You may see some supra-gingival calculus forming in some cases - but the subgingival area is usually clean (assuming has been applied properly).

So clients have the option of "protecting their investment" in a dental treatment by extending the benefit by at least six months. Economically this often makes sense to them.

In general terms a pricing approach is cost of product + a margin and then a separate fee for the time to apply.

Well trained nurses excel at doing this, it generally should not need to be a MRCVS task.

One tip I recommend is to ensure that the teeth are properly scaled (esp sub-gingivally), polished, rinsed (ideally water-pik type unit to flush the sulcus) and then dried using the air syringe. Drying the sulcus will open it up a little - it also ensures that the SANOS is "wicked" throughly up and spreads around the tooth circumference. Gently drying the area allows the outer shell of SANOS to seal the sulcus. Personally I do apply it to lingual/palatal surfaces as well - the standard recommendation is only to apply it vestibularly.

Incidentally Peter Emily did some work using SANOS in "dirty" mouths where subgingival calculus remained. SANOS still showed benefit by isolating the plaque and helping to avoid swarming etc.

Don't forget to ensure clients don't brush for 7-10 days post SANOS application.

All best

Bob

Yes. On selected cases only.
Does it work?
I think so. As I put it to owners, to give a severely compromised gum that needs all the help it can get, a bit of an advantage in healing in the first few weeks post-treatment.
How much are we charging?
An awful lot. Cost price plus usual drug mark-up then knock a bit off again.
