I guess as the vet starting this I can set

RE: Quick CPD things I've learnt - cats

And azathioprine zaps cats

RE: Quick CPD things I've learnt - cats
Cisplatin splats cats" apparently.
well, now you mention it, that rings a bell...

RE: Quick CPD things I've learnt - cats
I don't know how relevant this is, and I can't see it being a drug I reach for in a hurry at the best of times, but cisplatin causes a severe, fatal pulmonary oedema in cats. I don't remember learning that at uni!
Although counts are slightly higher on automated. Different machines show similar results and correlate with manual counts. Reference labs typically report those of automated unless specifically asked otherwise.

Because reticulocytes continue to mature ex Vivo, they should be assessed ASAP

Recommended cut-offs for a lack of regeneration are a reticulocyte percentage of <1.70 for manual and <3.06 for automated counts

Survey on outcome of Ehmer sling placement in dogs with dislocated hip. Basically concluded that a) Ehmer sling doesn't do a lot of good, and b) High and sometimes disastrous level of complications.

Pleased me greatly to read this, as I never liked the Ehmer sling - apart from anything else must surely be extremely uncomfortable to have your leg tightly strapped up in such an un-natural position.

Time to consign the Ehmer sling to the dustbin of history?

And lipase is in the Axiom feline pancreatic profile.

(I had actualy thought lipase wasn't very useful in cats and said so to one of my young colleagues - then after talking to Axiom I thought maybe I was talking nonsense...!).

So who is correct? Or have I mis-understood what Neil is saying - and that a high lipase does indictate disease, but a low level might be missing a positive case (hi specificity /low sensitivity etc).
