Anyone using one?

We have been offered a UA monitor from Abaxis. Just wondering what everyone's experience is. IN essence I'm not sure it adds much over a standard dipstick test but it does claim to provide a semiquantitative Protein - Creatinine ratio. I initially thought

RE: Abaxis UA monitor review?
Thanks as an aside, could you elaborate on why you were offered a free one? Either by Dm on on here. We were offered one to resolve a dispute with Abaxis. If a free one is a regular thing it’s not really the outstanding customer service I was looking for!!

I was offered the machine itself and the little printer for free if I bought 4 boxes of test strips last week by our Zoetis rep. Didn’t take up the offer as already have Idexx UA and we run UPCs on the Catalyst

RE: Abaxis UA monitor review? But it is more of a faff to set up than a dipstick.

I was thinking recently that it might be possible to get an actual number for upcr as I think the protein and creatinine numbers are given so perhaps it can be worked out manually but don't know if that's how it actually works. If not then it's hard to monitor gradual changes over time.

RE: Abaxis UA monitor review? I do quite like the machine but it does have the standard weaknesses of dip sticks.

Not sure the Zoetic management have got things right. We were going to buy a replacement haematology machine but when a particular rep left, the price went up by £3K so they lost a sale.

I managed to get a good replacement from the States for not much more than £1500 incl VAT!!!

RE: Abaxis UA monitor review? I tend to use it as a screening test, so if the upc is ok on that I won’t send it to the lab. I don’t think I’d want to pay much money for it tbh.

RE: Abaxis UA monitor review?
We do use all REM systems equipment in our lab and order a lot of Zoetis products. The UPC ratio strips only cost $10 each so I thought I would give them a go as a screening test. I wouldn't have paid for this particular analyser.

RE: Abaxis UA monitor review?
Obviously urobilinogen, leucocytes and nitrite should be disregarded and I am not sure why they would appear on a veterinary product. The machine takes over a minute to tell me what I can see in a few seconds. The SG should be checked with a refractometer as any dipstick reading is worthless.

RE: Abaxis UA monitor review? Too many vague results & decided if I wanted a urine protein/creatinine ratio then I would need to send off & get a ‘proper’ number. No real advantage to just using a dipstic.
