I was offered the machine itself and the little printer for free if I bought 4 boxes of test strips last week by our Zoetis rep. Didn’t take up the offer as already have Idexx UA and we run UPCs on the Catalyst

I find it's a bit simpler when you would normally have a colour change on the border of positive and negative as you let the machine work it out. But it is more of a faff to set up than a dipstick.

I was thinking recently that it might be possible to get an actual number for upcr as I think the protein and creatinine numbers are given so perhaps it can be worked out manually but don't know if that's how it actually works. If not then it's hard to monitor gradual changes over time.

We had some sort of deal which did not involve much or any outlay. I do quite like the machine but it does have the standard weaknesses of dip sticks.

Not sure the Zoetic management have got things right. We were going to buy a replacement haematology machine but when a particular rep left, the price went up by £3K so they lost a sale.

I managed to get a good replacement from the States for not much more than £1500 incl VAT!!!

We are one too, I’m pretty sure it came as a freebie when we ordered our new haematology analyser, as a push to use theirs (we use their biochem too). I tend to use it as a screening test, so if the upc is ok on that I won’t send it to the lab. I don’t think I’d want to pay much money for it tbh.

Not sure really !

We do use all REM systems equipment in our lab and order a lot of Zoetis products. The UPC ratio strips only cost $10 each so I thought I would give them a go as a screening test. I wouldn't have paid for this particular analyser.

I have just accepted a free one only because I thought UPC ratio may be useful - waiting to see if we get useful results.

Obviously urobilinogen, leucocytes and nitrite should be disregarded and I am not sure why they would appear on a veterinary product. The machine takes over a minute to tell me what I can see in a few seconds. The SG should be checked with a refractometer as any dipstick reading is worthless.

Borrowed one for a month & sent it back. Too many vague results & decided if I wanted a urine protein/creatinine ratio then I would need to send off & get a ‘proper’ number. No real advantage to just using a dipstic.
