I referred a labrador a few years back for removal of the primary and LN spread - it also had followup chemo I seem to remember - and I put it to sleep a few years later due to awful arthritis.

RE: surgical removal/ resection of sub-iliac lymphnode
we have a 12 year old cocker spaniel with anal adenosarc with metastasis into the regional pelvic lymphnodes. She is bright, active and happy but has developed marked tenesmus with the pressure of the sub-iliac lymphnode onto the rectum. We are looking at trying to get more space by ideally a removal but possible resection of this lymph nose by ex lap. Anyone done this before? Tips? Good idea or hopeless? Have read a few articles that seem to think one can increase survival times from a few months to possibly up to 20 months but the usual small sample size etc comments apply.

Owners are aware of the prognosis but as this appears to be her only problem are prepared to try something.
I've not done the surgery myself, but I referred a dog 15 months ago to our local oncology centre with anal sac adenocarcinoma, metastasis to sublumbar lymph node (it was probably about 15cm diameter in a 27kg labrador) and peritonitis, she was a very unwell dog and without treatment I would have euthanased her that day. She had the primary tumour and the lymph node removed and recovered very well. She has recently developed another mass in her caudal abdomen, but at the moment it doesn't seem to be affecting her, she's a very happy dog. Her owners have decided that when it does cause problems they will have her euthanased, particularly as she has also developed chronic kidney failure and wouldn't be a candidate for another GA.
