She has received oral NSAIDs for the pain but she does not cope with them and gets horrible diarrhoea despite using probiotics (which

RE: Using topical NSAID for cat ulcers

Thank you very much for everyone's input! A quick update - I looked back and testing hasn't been done yet, I believe there is room for it so I'll pursue it, though someone else has suggested to add famcyclovir anyway. In the meantime I have started antibiotics (she wasn't on any) and Clerapliq (funny life coincidence!). This cat is not "tablet-able" and also starting to resent drops dramatically. Just waiting on the "boss" to return as we will likely be able to have a referral appointment done (one of her friends is a certified ophthalmologist :) ). I discussed corneal grafts but I can't perform them and I don't even think we have the right instruments for this.

I will see if I can get some photos to show you!

RE: Using topical NSAID for cat ulcers

Probably FHV-1 until proven otherwise. BOVAS famcyclovir paste may help ,we use 100mg bid with ronaxan 20mg bid sometimes with 2% cyclosporin or tacrolimus . The good news is they often resolve, BUT then reoccur a few weeks or months later when you withdraw the treatment .A better solution is a thin graft if you can, depends how deep it is too , some of them present after the owner has pulled a sequestrum out with eyebrow tweezers thinking it was an FB ?.

RE: Using topical NSAID for cat ulcers

Topical anaesthetics will delay healing further and should only be used on a short term basis.

There should be minimal risks to using any topical NSAID apart from the stress to the cat of medicating maybe prolonging the herpesvirus that is probably present.

Hope this helps
