Was it pre-op or post -op that they vomited ?- as i think that vomiting is more common in animals that are not in pain rather than post -op where you can see nausea but overt vomiting is less likely. I think if you have a particular patient that vomits after methadone then its useful to add in an anti-emetic - but i don't see it as being a big enough problem to include anti-emetics routinely.

I think we find the vomiting more distressing than the dogs do. I wouldn't worry about an anti emetic simply due to it causing sickness, but don't forget the wide range of other effects of maropitant - volatile agent sparing, visceral analgesic, faster return to feeding. I'd use it in most GI surgery.
