The base diets are balanced otherwise and I'm reluctant to change these as some species are very fussy! I'm looking for a cost-effective supplement I can buy in bulk that is primarily Mg

RE: Powdered Magnesium supplement

Here in NZ the majority of magnesium supplementation is done using magnesium oxide powder which can be obtained in 20-25kg bags. I'm sorry I'm not exactly sure where you might get something similar in the UK. This is either dusted directly onto pasture or added to supplementary feed as a slurry (adding molasses to the slurried mix can make it more palatable, if suitable).

Alternatively, magnesium sulphate or magnesium chloride are more water soluble than MgO and can be dispensed through water troughs. I'm guessing that the Rumbul magnesium boluses may not be suitable for the species that you are looking to treat?

RE: Powdered Magnesium supplement

calmag (MgO) or epsom salts? I think there were some disolvable tablets for water troughs at one stage but cattle were reluctant to drink. Needs to be mixed very well or the taste hidden. Not something you can sprinkle on the top easily.
