Compounding pharmacy is an American term that is being adopted - here we've called it extemporaneous preparation. (In the UK, pharmacists in general have largely stopped doing this and will usually get specials from a specials manufacturer). The Royal Dick produces a limited range e.g. tylosin capsules, budesonide capsules and external creams) and can prepare bespoke formulations; .https://www.ed.ac.uk/vet/services/pharmacy/compoundingpharmacies

RE: Mitotane protocol in small dogs

Probably redundant on Andrea's post, but if wishing awkward formulation compounded etc, i tend to start here:

The dose is 50mg/kg but the tablets are 500mg and in theory should not be divided.

Two options

a) Divide them (use a pill splitter, gloves and if you have one a fume hood).

b) Get a compounding pharmacy to split them (suspect very expensive)

c) Give dose every other day during induction.

Personally I have always gone with option a) but I split the tablets using precautions described and give the tablets to the owner. However I think this decision depends on a lot of other factors such as availability of compounding pharmacies who are willing to do this for a realistic price.

Hope this helps
