I just note on their records that I have advised vaccination, and leave it at that. The more you try to convince people, the more they believe they are right. Often, because, I don't respond the way they expect they end up asking me my opinion, which I'm happy to give, but I'm not going to try to persuade them.

The current trend seems to be people calling up asking do we "do titres"? I explain that we can, of course, send blood to the lab for a titre reading, but since there are no definitive levels at which titres are protective it can be hard to interpret. Also, how often do you do the titre testing to ensure your dog is covered? Surely once a year is not enough. Every month? (lucrative business for someone). Despite many enquiries for titre testing, I don't think I've actually had anyone go ahead with it.

RE: Kennel club stance on vaccination
showing DHP at 8and 10 weeks, nothing else.
Yes indeed, with our esteemed homeopathic colleagues leading the way, bless them! For more information see chapter nine, page 178

Science denialism is alive and kicking. It's bad enough in the veterinary world but some of the things that happen in the human field are appaling.

We get people insisting on titre testing ('cos that's wot they read on the intyweb) but when asked what they would do if antibody levels were found to be insufficient they still say they wouldn't vaccinate anyway

Is vaccination still so discredited in 2019?
Yeah they're still at it.

As it happens I saw a new puppy today. He came with a whole load of stuff from the breeder and a vaccination card showing DHP at 8and 10 weeks, nothing else. The breeder's bumf said he had been fully vaccinated and actually said to note he had not had leptospirosis vaccine; that he should never have leptospirosis vaccine and never have boosters, vets recommend boosters quite unnecessarily, if anyone ever pressed for a booster he should have a blood test, if he really needed a booster he should have homeopathic nosodes which are much safer, over-vaccination causes many serious illnesses sometimes many months after the vaccine and often kills," believe me I speak from experience".....

The owner is quite a well brought up lady so I described this to her as "utter nonsense". "I trust you completely" she said.

also a bit of a mystery why you cannot show a cat without producing a vacc card at registration but doesn't appear to apply to dog shows
Because cat shows are in the iron grip of the self-appointed Governing Council of the Cat Fancy, while dog shows are in the iron grip of the self-appointed "governing body of dog breeding" the Kennel Club.

It is extremely unlikely that the dog contracted the disease at Stoneleigh due to the incubation period for the virus, which is between 3 and 14 days. However due to the presence of the dog on the premises, the Kennel Club has taken the precaution of closing the building and is currently conducting a deep clean and sanitisation of the premises and will keep the building closed until all precautions have taken place which is typically between five and seven days.
The Kennel Club asks for all those that might have been in contact with the infection to keep a close eye on their dogs and if they see any signs of canine parvo-virus, the effects of which include having a high temperature, having less energy, not wanting to eat, vomiting and diarrhoea often with blood, to take their dog to their vet promptly. The best way of protection from the virus is to ensure that your dogs are fully vaccinated and maintained according to your vet’s recommendations.
The Kennel Club has been keeping its customers up to date on the situation and will be refunding those clubs that have shows booked while the premises are closed.
Exhibitors are reminded of Kennel Club show regulations which state that no dog suffering from any infectious or contagious disease or having been exposed to such disease during the period of 21 days prior to the show or suffering from any visible condition which adversely affects its health or welfare may be exhibited.
