Go over history again with owner.
I had a case that got better after a few days and the owner had forgotten to tell me it had eaten a tray of flapjacks that had just come out of the oven at the start of the problem!

RE: Diabetes Mellitus?

(cow vet so feel free to ignore me, but pyometra, anyone?)

RE: Diabetes Mellitus?

And, be careful with your insulin dose. Be conservative, keep a close eye on blood glucose, look out for hypos, and be prepared to drop the dose rapidly if necessary and hopefully stop at some point. As the progesterone levels drop, and they soon will, so will her blood glucose. Sounds as if it came on suddenly and it may also stop suddenly.

RE: Diabetes Mellitus?

[quote user="Stigen"]

This is almost certainly relevant. Insulin resistance due to progesterone. If you can get her blood glucose down to normal and then spay her in anoestrus, she will hopefully go into remission. If left cycling then they become full-blown diabetics, and it's hard to control because of the fluctuating hormones.
