My client has a one year old DSH with suspected dry FIP ... from a multicat household. He has enlarged ( huge) mesenteric LNs ... can’t resect them as at the head of the mesentery / BVs, rest of ex- lap NAD, no ascites.
Can you give any info on how the diagnosis was made? Ie how definitive was it?

[/quote]

I'm not at the practice just now, so just going off of memory, but when we saw the cat there was free fluid in the abdomen. Rivalta's positive, fluid send for cytology was suspicious of FIP, and there was high globulins on biochem.

The owner then requested a consult with an internal medicine specialist at the University of Guelph, where they did some further workup, and then another opinion at a local IM specialist, where even more diagnostics were performed. One of them obtained a liver biopsy which showed evidence of a FIP lesion. The owner spent an absolute fortune!

There was also some globulin electrophoresis in there, and some antigen or antibody testing. Everything came back pointing towards FIP. Which is why everyone here is amazed this cat is doing so well

RE: FIP treatment options.

Interesting you post this - had a client who's 1yr old cat had been diagnosed with wet FIP, and was really in a bad way. Not responding to appetite stimulants, was on IVFT because it wouldn't drink. They had heard of GC376, managed to get a hold of some needles, syringes and a bottle of the stuff, and took the animal home for a few days to "say goodbye". At the time we were unaware they had this weird sounding drug - it's only now, 3 months later that the client actually told us about the drug and the fact they've been injecting it at home. Although I can't condone the use of a non-licensed drug, especially at home with the owner injecting it, the cat is now eating, drinking, has gone back up to 6kg from 4kg, and is doing amazingly. I couldn't believe it was the same cat. Fingers crossed it doesn't relapse.

Here's another study:

We had a suspected case , the owner googled this Polyprenyl immune stimulant and we ordered it from America. Not sure if it did anything

Very odd little cat, 1.7kg, suspect congenitally affected ...lived to be about 4 and then seizured and died.

RE: FIP treatment options.

That is a good article actually.
