One ridgeback sleeps on our bed, other ridgeback and bulldog have huge dog bed in kitchen. Cat varies position usually on childrens beds but sometimes annoyingly on ours, purring in my face.

So does ours, but not all the time. He's got a crate in the kitchen that he normally sleeps in but has been sneaking upstairs with my wife when she goes to bed and it's very difficult to remove him!

It's been cold in the kitchen recently, I'll let him off. We move next week to a house with better energy rating so he can stay in the warm downstairs room!

Don't worry, you're not the only one hiding a shameful secret. Ours sleeps *in* the bed never mind on it. So does the cat. At least it keeps us all warm in the winter I guess...

Both mine sleep in the kitchen (but little dog does get to come and snuggle with me on a Sunday morning )

The previous dog used to sleep on the bed...well, under the duvet at the foot of the bed! But after we had children they got the sofa downstairs.

Not sure I want to be the only one to admit it, but our dog does, yes. Spaniel is good and sleeps at the foot of the bed. Two other members of staff share their bed with a dog (or 3 if you count my wife who shares the bed with me and the mutt).

Ditto! Quite enough dog hair and smell downstairs. Upstairs is the dog free zone, but then the cat walks mud and fur all through the bedrooms anyway.

The one exception is Christmas morning where we put the huge blanket on the bed (which is unused for the other 364 days of the year) and the dogs come and jump on the bed with the kids while we open presents. 6 on a bed, all completely hyper - chaos!

Only when they get to this point - rolled in decomposed seal then coated in sand

because what is on the dog is then liberally transferred to the bath/shower, tiles, floor, owner, owner's bed...

My small terrier-mutt loves to roll in horse/sheep/chicken/cat/rabbit/hedgehog poo - and she generally stinks. Gets dunked under the shower when I can't stand it any longer.

I had a client once who was a hairdresser and her dog was beautifully coiffed with no apparent ill effects. We discussed frequency of bathing, and I had to concede that I washed my hair daily. I guess it depends on the dog's skin, the product, the operator or even the temperature of the water and the method of drying....

It was a Bichon and was hospitalised next to an unwashed variety one day, they looked like different breeds!

Hi Liz,

I have a little yorkie who gets regular washing, any bit of long grass or muck and he is dirty. Sometimes I just give him a warm wash if hes cold/shivering after a walk (definitely a pampered pooch!)

because regular washing I use a ph neutral shampoo and he tolerates this fine.

In bad weather he could get washed a few times a week, and then when dry in the summer it might only be every few weeks,

I am another one that washes the dogs when they smell/need it. We do have outside hot and cold water taps so we can use warm water in the winter!!

I promised myself an outside hot tap over 25 years ago after sampling the delights of warm wellie washing on a farm. It has taken me that 25 years to install it!

I'm another one who doesn't bath the dogs! Sometimes my husband will bath the collie if she rolls in something horrible, but she usually smells just as bad again within 48 hours, so hardly worth it!

I never clip their nails either, apart from their dew claws. I reckon if you walk them enough they don't need it. Nail-clipping is one of my most hated tasks!

I know what you mean though, some of these fluffy oodle things seem to get bathed ridiculously frequently. I think it depends on the product they are using - for example with skin cases I will sometimes advise bathing weekly or even twice weekly (though not usually the whole dog), but that's with products I feel are helping the situation! With 'normal' shampoo I wouldn't say more than once a month?

(Also, I was too lazy to wash the dog last night when she was covered in mud after a walk. At some point in the night she snuck under the covers and now I am full of regrets)

I only ever recommend bathing when a dermatological condition requires it. No need for a dog without a skin condition to have regular baths. I also just rinse mine off with the hosepipe if covered in something particularly disgusting!

Agree with the above.

Yes, I've seen pampered pooches in whom I believe the frequent bathing was causing skin problems through taking away all the natural oils.

We never bath our dogs. If were covered in something awful would hose off outside, thats it. Be interested to hear views.
