Developed scabby lesions on the tips of both pinnae 2-3 months ago, those on the right have virtually resolved, but on the left the lesion became ulcerated and bleeds regularly. He has been treated with Bravecto.

I think that is a very good question to be honest. The whippet I’m sure isn’t bothered at all, and if he was mine I definitely would ignore (or possibly not have noticed in the first place). The dachshunds both seem a bit more bothered, scratching and occasional bleeding from the scabs.

We have a report from the dermatologist on the whippet. He has been put on Trental, (pentoxyflline) but the biopsy was fairly inconclusive, the pathologist commented that it is difficult to diagnose vasculitis on histo except in the very earliest stages. So his ears look much the same so far but it is early days, except of course a dip where the biopsy was taken.

We have also put two separate dachshunds on Trental too, as they are worsening, but again early days to be able to tell whether it is helping or not. How’s your steroid one Thomas Johnson?

I saw him back last night, no improvement on prednisolone, and he has developed a new lesion on the tip of the other pinna, I'm wondering whether to try Trental or go for partial pinnectomy. What weight are the dachshunds that you have put on it Joyce Whitehead and how have you found dividing the tablets?

RE: Pinna vasculitis in a dog

We have a report from the dermatologist on the whippet. One in a whipper, very high maintenance client who we have referred to a dermatologist (at her request) and biopsy is pending. Other one is a dachshund and has been suffering on and off for a couple of months, but owner not keen to spend much. Anecdotally he has improved on efa supplementation (his coat wasn’t great and it is generally better on this). We have discussed pentoxifylline, although getting a small enough dose for a little dog isn’t easy. But the owner has currently decided to live with it.
