A pair of normal sized testicles, more ventral and further apart than usual, situated below the penis, with what looks like a wider than normal vaginal opening just above.

Looks more like hypospadia to me (midline closure defect) but weird that the testes are misplaced...

Edit: no, wait, I realise what i thought was a midline defect is just a dilated anus. Whoops. Weird one anyway, but would think unlikely to be fertile if testes removed but as Bob says worth warnibg the owner to watch for signs of heat.

Hi Linda,

You could be right, I didn't think to do this at the time, but it would have been useful to see if the penis was actually patent by placing a catheter.

RE: Intersex in cats
Hi Liz,

That's fine, its great to have so people's views on something like this.

Educate the owner regarding what to look out for. I have always found it really hard looking for things that are not there (or might not in this case).

Another one to give owners the options and let them decide.

RE: Intersex in cats

Although I would have thought it unlikely, there is a possible risk of future pyometra or pregnancy, and the only way to know for sure whether the cat has any uterine or ovarian tissue would be detailed imaging or exploratory surgery.

RE: Intersex in cats
this strikes me as just the sort of thing that we'd like to encourage everyone to start sharing in the clinical reference galleries
The primary purpose of neutering is to prevent kittens.
