We service ours every 5 years, As long as you hoover the PC fan regularly, you don,t need to service it more often.

Nothing to do with our PMS. This is software that goes with the digital X-ray machine.

Our PMS is covered by support from the provider!

PS Make sure nobody ever installs games or ANY other software on the practice system!!!

Check often and if there is a "problem".

PPS check reload, replace power supply,or memory stick etc. clean and delete all the unwanted stuff on the "broken" box and it becomes the spare for the next incident......

We had a fully loaded and configured box and all the spare bits, mouse, keyboard etc so that when a branch system went "down" we just took the box to the branch, loaded the practice software and lastnight's backup and away we went...

I've had experience of maintenance contracts where they "had to go away to get a hard drive etc".

Our way, we were back up and running in an hour....

Spare of everything including the "box"[cheaper than contracts] is the key!!

And we didn't link the branches for that reason, one down, all down!!!

Oh, and Top Tip,,,, vacuum all the hair and fur from the power supply and CPU regularly!!

Lots of options seem to be available at the end of the first year. We shall see how much hassle the unit is over that first year. Probably pay as we go!

I don't mind paying for a maintenance contract and if this is all inclusive I might consider it for peace of mind.

I don't mind paying a reasonable amount for on-going software support but a cost like this seems a bit much especially if there is a five year warranty.

Not heard back yet but an all singing, all dancing supported PACS system might be required for a big hospital or multipractice set up but is rather too grand for a one man band!

I refer you all to Fiona, one of the best nurse [unqualified] I ever had.

She would, on occasions, walk past someone starring and fiddling with a strange screen.

She would simply and succcinctly advise "When it does that, I turn the *ucker off!"

I'm paying £750 p/a + VAT for a maintenance contract for my Agfa CR30. Software upgrades are free and there is an annual inspection and software updates are free but no software maintenance contract, when the software crashed in May it cost £270 to fix. Sadly our machine only had a 1 year parts warranty as it was re-conditioned so when the power board circuit failed last week and although we get 10% off parts that was £1400 to replace so near £2K with labour. The most expensive service option @£1879 p/a + VAT and that only give 25% off parts and £10 less per hur labour charges.
