We have had the good luck not to see so many examples of this syndrome in recent months/years, but currently have a Burmese who is badly affected. He is currently responding well to NSAID and partial opiate, although we are poised with phenobarbitone

Re: Feline oro-facial pain syndrome

There was an article quite recently in Vet Times of all places, which summed up pretty well what we know, what we think we know and what we don't know. I haven't much to add. I've never used gabapentin. Really at this level (i.e. after truly eliminating identifiable sources of pain) it's a matter of trying things one by one and if your treatment begins to fail go on to the next. The behavioural aspects of management are probably pretty important too.

I'm not criticising, but are you absolutely sure there is no identifiable source of pain in the mouth? Have the teeth been examined and assessed and radiographed, under GA?

Re: Feline oro-facial pain syndrome

No idea what to do.
