I'm seeing a cat at the moment with ongoing pyrexia, mild lethargy, & some mild neuro signs - mainly mild ataxia & odd headshaking/facial twitching, plus now mild D+. Investigations so far show low WBCs with marked neutropenia, FIV +ve on Western

RE: Latest suggestions for FIV?

I don't think there's anything new under the sun, it's a while since I've done any shelter stuff. Fiv normally doesn't have that much of an immunomodulatory effect except when severe or the cat is already debilitated.

The bigger worry is the toxo. Cats that fail to favourably and significantly respond in the first few days have a worse prognosis.

Corticosteroids are indicated where there are neuro signs, a lot of the signs may be attributable to inflammatory response.

RE: Latest suggestions for FIV?

You can try recombinant feline interferon it may work as an immunomodulator as well as by its anti-viral action.

Recommended dose is 1 mega unit/kg every other day for 5 doses. If it seems to help repeat in 14 days if it doesn't it is likely a non-responder. Periodic sets of further 5 injections may be needed according to well being/clinical status
