I completed the ESAVS dentistry courses a few years ago when they were run at Accesia in Sweden. They were absolutely brilliant and would highly recommend them, although it does not lead to any qualification. ESAVA has subsequently moved the courses elsewhere, though Accesia run their owner courses on a similar line.

I agree that it is a great shame that we have to travel abroad to obtain decent advanced dentistry CPD, and also that there is currently no certificate level qualification. I have looked into the ANZ course and I believe it is running with exams every 2 years, but you have to travel to Sidney for the final exam....

Friend of mine just did the MANZVS Dentistry and Oral Surgery exams this summer... definitely running. His name is Tom Williams, and he practices down in the South West somewhere. May be worth contacting him to chat about how he did it.

I've not done them myself but ESAVS do offer a few dentistry courses - and with the opportunity to study towards a certificate of small animal veterinary practice focusing on dentistry.

Also contact the RCVS directly, they will tell you if anyone have them planned, or may even tender it out. There was a time when the AWSEL modules were difficult to find, but I think they worked with Bristol to get them up and running. The RCVS has had to take on a wedge of the synoptic assessments to meet demand, I've done a couple at Belgravia House.

Kathryn, is it just you interested or do you have some contemporaries interested? I have to wonder when a syllabus already exists for dentistry whether it would be worth contacting one of the universities already offering CertAVP modules and seeing if they would pay the few hundred pounds to become accredited to offer even an assessment only route. If you have a group of people keen to sign up then I'd expect them to jump at the chance.

The Australian/NZ college held dentistry examinations this year, and given its one of the few dentistry specific qualifications available (to my knowledge, don’t give up on it. Contact the ANZCVS directly and express interest. Ask about sitting the exams in the uk. PM if you want more info

Indeed . A sore point. In practical terms only a university is likely to offer it and none of them do. Because no veterinary school has a department of dentistry, and because there is very little expertise or knowledge in small-animal dentistry in the veterinary schools (until quite recently there was NONE).
